a tale of two cities...

No its not about that masterpiece by Charles dickens...its about my stay in two cities other than mine...New Delhi and Chandigarh...
well i stayed in Delhi for over a year, stayed in Chandigarh for a total of a few days( dont remember how many)...but i felt an urge to start of with them as they both touched my heart...
different cities have different cultures and specialties esp in a country like India...whenever we think about a particular city a picture suddenly springs into our minds...
When i first went to Delhi,i went with a hope in my heart and a dream in my eyes. i was going to the capital!!! though the purpose of my visit was study,i couldnt help but get overrawed by it...staying there for over a year i got to know delhi a bit better than i used to earlier and also its people...the busy lanes, the crowded markets, the metro rail, the sweltering heat, and the chilly winters all brought me closer to it and created a place for itself in my heart...i loved the food esp since im a nonveg freak...the tikkas, kebabs, rolls, butter chicken and momos were mouth watering...there are many places of historic interest like u all must be aware...but i loved the lotus temple the most...it symbolized peace...gives a lot of inner peace to people and is a good place to sit and introspect...the busy markets of karol bagh, lajpat nagar, sarojini nagar and cannaught place draw people towards them like a bear is drawn to honey (ok...got it..bad example..but thats all i have in my mind right now!!!)..youngsters thrive on the numerous CCDs,Dominos and Pizza huts...overall the city is a nice place to live in,but its too busy and crowded...the pollution level is just too much too handle...add to that the hot summers and the hours and hours of powercut...but the people are nice..it represents India in a perfect way as you can find people from all over the country here...

Just a 5 hrs volvo bus drive from delhi is the calm and serene chandigarh...the hustle and bustle of delhi was replaced by the rustling of leaves of the numerous trees on the streets of chandigarh...this city is planned to prefection...all the houses, markets and everything in here is symmetrical to say the least...its a green city and far less polluted compared to the smoke and dust laden delhi....though equally hot as delhi but it has a strange calmness associated with it...i enjoyed shopping and sitting in the parks, sitting in the city centre of sector 17 with my girlfriend and devouring numerous icecreams, the Gopal's restaurant, hot millions and grabbing a bite at KFC...the rock garden was stunning...but its history reminded of the pain it is associated with..i had a lump in my throat when i imagined what would have transpired there on that fateful day of 1919...i felt a renewed sense of anger and patriotism...
but overall i loved chandigarh...the green sorroundings, the jovial sardarjis, the serene atmosphere....the place is just refreshing!!!
